south africa bound . south africa bound .
yep, that's right. yours truly will no longer be going for the exercise in taiwan come april, but will instead be on for may's exercise held in exotic SOUTH AFRICA! will be there for almost the whole month, which will be the longest time i'd spend in a foreign country.. should be interesting if not for the fact that i'd not be playing the role of a tourist this time (except during the RnR).. but still, its SOUTH AFRICA!! (pardon the caps) and wat's more, we'll be flying on SQ to Johannesburg no less!! it's a 10.5hrs flight! (i checked. :P) whoohoo!! cabin crew on board be prewarned. :P then again, it will not be bright and cheery of course. apparently we will have to endure a 10hrs bus ride to your training ground. sounds scary. and i fear for my rear (it rhymes!) here's what bert has to say about my trip. me: hey i'm going to south africa bert: omg! omg! why? me: for exercise lo.. bert: oh, you might get to meet tyra if she goes there for antm! me: erms... -.-'' will be outfield most of the time, hope this would be what i see instead of sand and vast emptiness. am hoping to catch sight of animals too, though upclose encounters with man-eating ones are and will be best avoided for fear for ending up as lunch. or dinner.
back to work tmr for it's sunday morning liao (that's the pessimist in me talking) the weekend sure flies! Friday, March 28, 2008 | 9:30 PM
year of the 21sts year of the 21st. because today's friday, i'll blog. thrice. have u ever looked back upon times when u were little, when the world seemed to be a much better place and people were erm, friendlier? well, i often have, and one thing that stood out during such trips down memory lane was how much i yearned to be an adult when i was young, to be able to escape the monotony of school and to be able to earn my own keep, to have more freedom.. time indeed flies (okay not as much now considering i'm serving the country -.-'') and this is the year that many of my friends, myself included, have turned,are/willbe turning 21. yesh, the big 2-1, were we'll be FINALLY allowed to watch r-rated movies legally (like i'm even remotely interested) and in the eyes of everyone else, are no longer young adults, but full fledged ones. with this comes the responsibilites and challenges of adulthood, of the real world, and of making a living in this world that might seem to be a little too cold and impersonal at times. but i digress. to me, 21 is just another candle on the cake (which i dun think i'll have) and another sign that i'm older. hence, i really don't get the big hoo-hah and parties which some of my pals throw with aplomb. of cuz, everyone's entitled to have their own celebrations but my kinda thing would definitely be small, intimate gatherings with beloved family and friends (separately of course) and to cherish the day that i come to be. however, with one celebration gone by and many more to come, i say bring it on, for such celebrations do provide me with the chance to catch up with long-forgotten friends and to meet new people. happy friday. | 9:13 PM
a great way to fly a great way to fly? okay this pic is so outstanding that it deserves its own post. while playing around (sounds wrong) at t3 at the wee hours of last sun morning, hiang chanced upon this huge SQ A380 ad mounted on top of the check-in counters and of cuz, we HAD to make our own version of it.

attack of the ba-soh attack of the ba-soh yep, that's her, cindy. one of most, if not the most act cute and "deh" person i know. fortunately (or unfortunately depending on which way you look at it), she's also one of my closest friend. and that's saying a lot when i dun have that many to go around. looking back, we've went through so many ups and downs as well as highs and lows that it's kinda hard to believe we've only known each other for slightly more than 3 years.
as our tradition, after dinner was free-for-all-trigger-happy time. unfortunately, hiang forgot to bring her quite good digicam and even more unfortunately, i didn't bring my Ixus either. thankfully, the birthday girl bought hers and credit for the above and below pics belongs to hers and hers alone. (well, not really, considering hiang took most of the nice shots.)
birthday surprise part 2! sext baby thru the years was the reason why we were both late. now you know!

in·ept in·ept (in-ept, i-nept) adjective - generally awkward or clumsy; haplessly incompetent just a short-on-words-heavy-on-pictures post before i crash out after working 12hour shifts for the past 3 days. (now who said staying out was slack?!) anyways.. caught 2 shows over the weekend which left me feeling completely useless (that's an understatement).. first up was august rush with hiang on fri. been wanting to catch this movie since forever and was glad to finally have the chance to do so. despite having less than stellar reviews, the movie, with its star ensemble and great (okay, GREAT) sountrack didn't disappoint. in fact, it was so good that me being me, teared towards the finale. (but then again, hiang did too, so i wasn't alone.) :P seeing Jonathan Rhys Myers strumming and singing on the guitar and Keri Russell playing the cello so passionately made me wanna call up any music school and book my guitar lesson pronto. (ps i will, once my schedule gets sorted out.)
the second show was totally an unexpected decision. went to shaw balestier with my bro to pick up ice cream after dinner at my aunt's house on sun. mum wanted to watch her korean drama (which i evidently didn't) and suddenly realised that we had time to watch a movie. thankfully, step up 2 the streets was available and grabbed that since i loved step up. as with august rush, reviews weren't spectacular but i wasn't there for the plot or acting. duh. this movie's all about the moves man! though Jenna Dewan wasn't cast and Channing Tatum only cameoed, the new leads definitely were up to the task, esp Briana Evigan. she is b-e-a-utiful. and did i mention she dances divinely?
i'm not that much of a hip-hop person and watching the show did not leave me scraming for the phone to book any dance lessons, step up 2 did provide me with much needed entertainment from my absolutely happening life (yea right), especially with the SALSA segment. i was practically swooning over the dance steps while at the same time cursing myself for having 2 left feet. darn.
am now stuck with an insatiable need to rewatch dirty dancing 2: havana nights. now that's a classic all time fave. happy eve of good friday eve everyone! - peace out! Saturday, March 8, 2008 | 10:45 PM
wan·der·lust now i like the sound of that. can't say that i'll have much chance to travel (ie travelling for exercises are so not counted.) during my 2 years of serving the nation, but one can hope. hope real bad. and with this rather uplifting thought, i bring you the 10 places that i've always wanted to visit... 10) Lyon, France
To witness the world's greatest patissers at their best during Annual Coupe du Monde de la Patesserie or World Pastry Cup. But the real aim is to meet the ultra nice renowned French Master Patisser whom I've had the chance to work with during the Asian Pastry Cup in 2006. ps he was the spiltting image of Albert Einstein, complete with wiry hair and all. :P 9) South Carolina, USA
Okay, this might be rather shallow but the reason I've always wanted to visit South Carolina was to find out if the amazing sceneries and quaint small towns that Nicholas Sparks and Nora Roberts often set their novels in do actually exist. 8) Havana, Cuba
To relive scenes from Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and to experience a city so diverse and completely different for the safe and unfortunately rather sterile Singapore. Also to get my chance to witness people dancing rumba or salsa on the streets (and hopefully join in). 7) Crete, Greece
To immerse myself in one of civilisation’s most ancient cities and soak in plenty of sun, sand, sea and whitewashed rooftops. Hopefully meet the friendly locals with weatherbeaten and wrinkled faces that brightens up a room when they smile. Hope they speak English too. :P
To make good a promise that didn’t come to light and to fulfil my dream of climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and sing Part Of Your World at the top of my lungs in front of the Opera House. Also plan on staying at one of the quaint bed and breakfasts in Leura while visiting the Blue Mountains.
Besides visiting another bridge, -.-'' I wanna experience in full the big city that feels like a small town. First things to do would to be enjoy fish and chips while watching the sea at Fisherman’s Wharf and taking the cable cars across town. Heard that when fog hits Frisco, it hits hard. That would be a nice experience.
Who wouldn’t want to visit Venice? Praying that I’d be able to plant my feet in Saint Mark’s Square before the city goes under. Being serenaded by gondoliers while cruising around the many canals are a must. (Even if I have to force the poor guy to sing.)
Ah, Barcelona, land of Gaudi. The home of so many iconic landmarks like The La Famille Sagrada and Casa Batllo this is one place that I’d be glad to play the role of a trigger happy tourist. The added bonus of hearing (and attempting to speak) Spanish is definitely welcomed. Hola!
This might be dismissed as another case of “Who wouldn’t want to visit Paris?” (see Venice, but seriously, Who wouldn't want to visit PARIS?!?!) but trust me, its not. I’ve had an infatuation with Paris for as long as I can remember (just don’t ask me why). Probably one of the most if not THE MOST romantic cities in the world, Paris for me is best savoured with a loved one. Imagine strolling down hand in hand from Champ Elysees to Place de la Concorde or watching the Eiffel Tower come to light.
New York, New York! A city so wonderful that they had to call it twice. I have no doubt that this city IS the centre of the world and would die to be a part of it. A city so diverse and so bustling that I can’t help but be drawn to it. This is a city that there’s no need for me to plan ahead, for I’ve already known where I wanna visit. under the weather under the weather . the combination of sucky rainy days and post cny goodie bingeing has finally gotten me. all that plus doing sai gang for the whole of yesterday resulted in a soaring body temperature (39.1C!) and a searing throat.
doc's advice: 2 days mc - really needed it though. has slept today away and project tmr to be largely the same. |
